Before the advent of modern medical professions, how do people heal and cure themselves? Different people from different cultures must have their own healing methodologies and traditions. The ancient ancestors must have found properties of plants, herbs and minerals that can heal the body.

Below are examples of alternative healing professions and careers. Some are modern while others are ancient traditions:

1. Hypnotherapist. This is a fairly new healing art. It uses the mind of the human subconsciousness to address the mental and physical well being of a person. A hypnotherapist must be an expert in hypnosis.

2. Reiki healer. Reiki is a Japanese work. It means spiritual chi. It uses an intelligent chi source to bring about healing. There are three levels to Reiki. A Reiki master can attune others with the Reiki energy.

3. Naturopath.  Naturopaths method emphasizes the body’s self healing ability. A career as naturopath sometimes involves herbs and acupuncture. Acupuncture in Chinese means needle healing. It involves inserting fine needles into the body to bring about healing.

There are certainly a lot more methods. Therefore this article is not exhaustive.
